    Default Dab Radio

Iv'e just purchased a pure highway dab for my vec, although when fitted it works fine and i'm pleased with it, but because it's plugged into the ciggy lighter i have to either keep my engine running or leave the ignition fully on, which is a pain when waiting in the car for any period of time. Also i don't want to keep taking it out whenever i park the car, so i would like to know if i can hard wire it into the car. It fits perfectly into the sunglasses holder and is easily hidden from view there. Has anybody any suggestions on how to wire it in please. Thanks.

i've never seen it... but i'm guessing that all the ciggy lighter plug has is a live and earth and maybe a fuse?? In which case, you can tap in to anywhere, presumably!

If you want it on without the key in, you need to find an 'always live' feed... Off the top of my head the standard radio would do... Although if you're looking for a long term mounting position in the sunglasses holder, would you be able to split a feed off of the interior light?? That deffo comes on without the key in!!!

While you've got it in the roof, it may also be worth running the aerial lead behind the headlining and mount at the top of the windscreen??

I imagine the biggest consideration would be the amount of power this thing needs and whether putting that extra load onto another circuit willy-nilly is going to fry anything... I would recommend an in-line fuse of the same rating as the one in the charger anyhoo...

Let us know how you get on! Wouldn't mind having a go at this if it's possible without making the car burst into flames

I have a Pure highway too, it's one clever piece of kit, but it only works as an FM transmitter through the DC socket, and is fed 5V DC not 12V. So would that pose a problem if you intend to hard wire it?

You could still hard wire it in even if it is only 5v, I did this with my tomtom when I had my Vectra.

I bought a cig extension lead, chopped the plug off that and hard wired that under my cig socket and them plugged my tomtom into the extension lead and all was hidden behind the dash. It still mean you are using the fuse and the "step down" of the unit's cig plug

You should be able to take a pernament live off the battery, through the grommet behing the glove box (or if I remember correctly there is a permanant live somewhere behind the glovebox you can tap off), there is a earth in there as well. Then just run the extension lead up the A pillar and fix it above the sunglasses holder in the roof lining.
