Smile Proud new SRi Estate Owner

    Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd drop everyone a line & introduce myself/my newly acquired car.

On Friday I took delivery of a 57 plate silver metallic 1.8 SRi estate. I bought it from Motorpoint in Peterborough & it had done only 12,000 miles since its birth into this world in Sept 07. The price was too good to refuse - a mind boggling £6999 - quite a saving compared to the new price of over £18k!

My search for a new car was forced on me, to be honest, when my previous car (a 2003 Renault Primera 5dr, 2.2 Dci, sorry Nissan Primera 5dr, 2.2 Dci) started to reveal its REAL inner self. What I mean is that after Renault bought Nissan, they insisted on using their French electrics rather than their proven Japanese colleagues' parts. The result.........a large number of very disatisfied Primera owners with cars that are riddled with electronic gremlins that are either impossible to solve or extremely expensive. The one that pushed me over the edge was the potential cost to replace the LCD screen that controls the Radio/Climate Control - £2500!

I therefore looked around at various other marques (estate) & narrowed the search to Ford, Mercedes, BMW & Chrysler. After driving all of them, there was something always not quite right with them.

Then I looked on the Motorpoint website in December 2008 & saw the £6999 price for a 15 month old Vectra estate. WOW, well why not go & at least look at it my wife suggested. So the following week we did just that & struck a deal (including them taking my Nissan in part-ex without even seeing it...SUCKERRRRRRSSSS!)

......then as I said, we collected it on Friday.

    The verdict?

We absolutely love it. It is a genuine joy to drive, with the lowered suspension & ultra-low profile tyres. The handling is sublime & already I've pushed the car quite hard into corners I'd normally have eased off going into. The equipment level is pretty good too - it would've been nice to have got Rain sensing wipers/auto dimming rear-view mirror/rear electric windows, but these are only very minor gripes.
The build quality is excellent (did I read somewhere that the estate is built in Germany????) & the obvious use of the a lot of sound-dead'ing materials makes travelling a pleasure.

Probably the best part is the way it looks. With the blacked out rear windows, alloy wheels & aggressive 'stance', it really is a sexy looking car - and for me to be saying that about either a Vauxhall (and an estate Vauxhall at that!) I'm surprised at myself!!!!!
Already we've had a couple of admiring glances from other Vec-C owners, including one I overheard saying to his daughter that it was 'the high performance one!' And thats fine with me, I'm quite happy to be driving a sheep in wolf's clothing!!!!!!!!!!!!

I look forward to hearing from you all & hopefully becoming a regular opinion provider on this simply awesome website.

    Thanks for reading,
    Cheers

    Andy

PS - I will post some pics when the sun decides to wake up again!
