    Exclamation Guys, is my Turbo....Goosed?

Ok, just come back on the M1 to Northampton and car felt fine...

Then, when it came to slower driving, 20-40mph etc... I put my foot down and there's nothing! Normally the turbo kicked in around 2200 revs and I heard the yummy "Wosssshing..." sound and it kicked me forward. I just don't feel it now.

At the moment, the car just goes up the revs until I have to change at 3000-4000 revs to get any sort of speed. I've opened my window to try and listen for the turbo and all I can hear... Well I'll try and describe it...

Image the dump valve on a car... The short "Pssshhh" sound... that's it, but very quiet, like its whispering to me.

The cars not hot, there's no strange smells, no warning lights on the dash... nadda, nothing...

So any help or advice would be great!!!

Turbo's not necessarily goosed - could be a sensor that is keeping the turbo in 'safe' mode i.e. not allowing it to boost. When I lost my turbo boost a while back, have a search for my threads, it was down to the internal wastegate disc coming loose from the arm therefore stopping the turbo from building up any boost.

If you're minded to get your hands dirty, then I''d suggest popping the air intake pipes off from the intake side of the turbo i..e the large black pipe that come from the air filter to the turbo and seeing if the compressor wheel all looks okay, then removing the cat from the exhaust side of the turbo and with a mirror look in to see if the disc I mentioned is attached to the arm. Look at my thread as it has pictures of all that.

Seriously Duncan... I don't know where I'd be without you!!!

I'll have a quick search for your thread and see. So it could be in "Safe" mode, would this give a fault code to VX?

'Safe' mode was a loose description, any fault codes that are stored 'may' help in diagnosing any issue, but just because a fault code is triggered by one sensor it doesn't mean that sensor is faulty. Something else could be the cause of the problem, but it's the first sensor 'downstream' of that problem that picks it up, so it needs a bit of nous to interpret any fault codes and what the underlying problem may be.

On mine, once I took the exhaust off the turbo it was plain to see what the issue was and so an 'easy' diagnosis so to speak. Wastegate disc detached = no boost being generated.

Here's my thread - http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34725 Have a good read of my first post and the thread that's linked off it and that'll give a whole lot of info.

It's a pity you aren't closer as I could've read any fault codes for you and looked at the likely suspects.

I'd certainly pop off the cat if you're up to that and look to see if it's the same problem that I had. At least you can then rule that out and then spend the time looking further.

Hey Duncan, had a little drive just now and the damm things working again... OMG did I miss it when I didnt have it... I guess it must of gone into safe mode. At least I know what "limp" home mode is LOL.

Looks like I had the problem you mentioned in your thread... Is it worth me getting looked at?

I just hope it doesnt happen when I'm trying to either overtake someone or pull out somewhere... it really showed me how much the car relies on the turbo.

I had exactly the same problem some time ago and a vacuum pipe had come adrift preventing turbo boosting.
