Default Service indicator and book, don't add up. What don't I understand ?

    Hi

I got my '08 CDTi SRI (150) on Tuesday and I've done about 240 miles.

I've just properly looked at the service book and it was serviced in September 08 when there was 12662 on the clock. It was PDI'd 14/3/08, which is the date is was first registered.

The car has now done 12956 miles, so between the service and me buying it did ~50 miles in 4 months.

I've just checked the service indicator and it say 2000 miles ! I double checked and it's definitely not 20,000 !

Why would the service indicator say 2000 mile even though it's not done a lot in the last 4 months ? Do I just not understand the service interval calculation ?

Most likely reason is that they didn't reset the service indicator when they serviced it in September.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was worried that's what may be the case Goodness knows how I'll convince the dealer to do something about it.

Will it just be a case of sucking up the service in 2000 miles or will I be able to do something about it ?

    Thanks.

You could try just resetting the sevice light yourself now, then do it again straight after your next service to get them alligned.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the light isn't actually on, according to the service indicator there's still 2000 miles to go until the next service.

I'm reluctant to mess about with the indicator as it's still under warranty.

If it's under warranty, I wouldn't worry to much about it, they will go off the service book itself.

Finally spoke to the place that serviced the car, wasn't a Vx dealer, they said maybe they "forgot, or couldn't reset it - ring Vauxhall" Rang W Grose in Northampton, who sorted it for £7.59.

They even checked the fluids and tyre wear !

So that's time, effort and £7.59 you could have saved by doing it yourself at the push of a button from the drivers seat..... in about 30 seconds...

Yep, I know I could have.

Just a little nervous about the possibility of screwing up somewhere with the warranty is all. I've never had a car this new before, or one that I've liked so much Next time (if there is one!) I'll know better, but the effort was minimal, and so was the cost, and the time fairly insignificant, maybe 20 minutes.

if the car is running on ecoflex it works out the service interval based on driving style/type based on sensor readings, on petrols (pre facelift) could be up to 20k miles or 2 years between servicing but if you do lots stop/start mileage this will be lower. tho you need to use correct spec oil & filter for this to work without damaging engine etc.
