    Default Just a reminder

I briefly saw a message that explained that Vec-C had exceeded it's bandwidth today, so I'm guessing that the guys in admin have had to put their hands in their pockets and increase the bandwidth even further.

As the site grows admin have to increase the bandwidth to accomodate everyone, and this obviously costs a little bit more money, so can I politely make members aware of this thread. It allows anyone that wishes to do so to assist admin with the running costs of this great site.

Please don't feel obligated to donate, and there is no minimum amount. I'm sure all donations will be gratefully recieved by the chaps in Admin Towers.

    Thanks for reading this.

i think it may have been the linking ebay advert that threw us over this month. We can normally cope with a few meets pictures, but this may have been too much for us.

We are still using over 16gb per month which a lot for such a small site,so im guessing we are being leeched in more than one instance. Something for admin to look into

    Good thinking AJA.

Andy, is there anyway to set up a monthly funding option without getting into a full on subscription scenario?

Do you get stat reports or logs that tell you where the bandwidth is being used etc.?

    @ Admin

obvioulsy i am not sure on how much you are paying per month for your hosting and what kind of features you get. also not sure on how much you have to pay for the extra bandwidth when you go over...

but could i suggest you take a look at this hosting company.

    http://www.servage.net

awesome service, plenty of bandwidth and excellent uptime!

If you mean from members, then currently the only way would be for people to manually send a PayPal payment each month. We're sorting out a bank account at the moment, so ultimately people, if they wished, could set up a standing order.

Yes, we do - to an extent. i.e. we can't see which specific threads are using what bandwidth. Not sure if any host would do that?

What i'm getting at is you should have a log file that will show you all requests for pages/images and where those requests come from, so this eBay auction would show up on the log with the requesting URL for example http:\\cgi.ebay.blahblah blah that way you would be able to see where your bandwidth is being leeched from.

You might also see URLs for other forums where members might be posting threads or pictures stored on vectra-c servers.

You could possibly alter your .htaccess settings to stop outside sites from hotlinking vectra-c stuff, providing of course the vBulletin software allows this, which I think it does IIRC.

As per my post in the 19's thread, I'm looking into this when I have some time. Turning on the various hotlinking protections either did nothing, or knocked out the images we have on the uploader! I'll get to the bottom of it!

I'll make a donation if you want, how about unlimited bandwidth? Your own login and password, full control of your domain on my reseller account with fasthosts?
