I remember the Merlin engined car very well saw it at Santa Pod many times in the 70's when John Dodds took it down the strip the engine noise was superb but it was not very quick due to the weight but the terminal speed was quite high, John got nicked on the M1 at one point as far as I remember for exceeding the speed limit somewhere around 180+ if my memory is correct, the police at the time could not catch him. Car caught fire on an autobahn in Germany if memory serves but it was a long time ago and I'm getting old!!!

The Merlin was the Spitfire/Lancaster/Hurricane/Mosquito/P-40 engine.
IMHO, 4 of the suckers flat out on a Lancaster is one of the best sounds on earth.
