    Thumbs down dual mass flywheel...again

well the cars back in at vx, and theyve identified that the DMF is falling apart, the car is still under warranty and has only done 42000 miles. was told on thursday that they had stripped it down to find this out and it would be covered under the warranty. i was then told by the service manager that they hadnt stripped it, just took it for a run round the block and the work may not be covered by the warranty. apparently, if the flywheel comes out and has blue heat spots on it then vx wont do it under warranty as it excessive wear and tear. but they wont know this till they get it out which is starting to incur charges. if its not covered they have quoted £900 or £1100 depending which flywheel it is!. should this be breaking at this sort of mileage, the cars not been hammered or anything and is mostly motorway driven. what do you think my chances are, i dont know if this is a moving part that will get heat spots on from friction or resistance. vx customer care were no help either.
    thanks for any help

they have to say this as they do have a lot of cases of abuse, they do not know how you have driven the car so they have to cover thier asses or a customer who does abuse thier car could say "well you did say it was covered under warranty"

I had a problem with mine last year. The dealer will be asked by VX Luton to take photos - ask for a copy for yourself. What they are looking for is driver abuse which is basically rubbish as the dmf is a weak spot. They did my clutch and dmf under warranty. There is definitely a design fault with this which VX will not "officially" recognise. Front springs is another common fault.

When they replace the dmf I hope they do not mess up the the drive shaft bearing cover bolts as they did with mine. Listen for a rattling noise after they have done job. Mine was back in for 2 weeks after bolts to cover went "missing" and had to wait for them to come from Germany.

I had my DMF + clutch replaced under warranty then the following week the starter motor worked its way out out the back of the engine. The AA guy said "The starters hanging out the engine!"
All the garage said was sorry "we've spoke to the mechanic and he's very apologetic".

well they did the dmf under the warranty thank god, so gonna push them now for them to re-imburse me for the car i had to hire as the dealer told me i wasnt eligible for it. and also found out tonight that the warranty also covers breakdown recovery, so again the i lost money taking time off work to arrange for someone to take the car to the garage when they could have sent a tow truck. i suppose they didnt want to rack up the charges incase it was excessive use and charged me for it!

Glad everything is more or less sorted Wayne . It sounds crazy though for the DMF to fail at such a low mileage !

Does this mean every 40 odd thousand miles the DMF needs replacing
