    Default Clunk from front end.

As title says i've noticed a clunk one or twice over the past 2 weeks coming from the front end when driving. Anyway last night when i was putting the car in the garage i noticed a creaking noise when i rocked the steering wheel from side to side. It sounds as if it's coming from the driver side front wheel area. I could only get it to do it tonight when i had the car on a slope going into the garage.
I jacked up the car and couldn't feel any play on the wheel so i took the wheel off and everything seemed ok. Should there be any play on the drop link bar as it moved a bit when i tried to push and pull the bar?
I even checked the power steering fluid level and it's halfway up the dipstick in the reservoir. Is this ok ? What oil/fluid should i be using to top up as i noticed the fluid is clear and not the red stuff i have in my garage cupboard.

    Any help offered is appreciated.

Just changed the drop links and it's still making the noise! Both springs appear to be ok i would say the noise seems to be coming from the steering rack area where the gator is. The gator is complete no splits etc. Has anyone had bother with the steering rack? The car is a 55 plate (just turned 3 years old) sri cdti with 42000 miles on the clock. It's already had the DMF + clutch replaced (last month) under warranty ,which has now expired.
I'm going to put it into mates garage to get him to check it out and if it's anything major i'll be getting rid of it.

Check all the subframe bolts are tight. also did they use new ones do you know? They are stretchy bolts (like cyl head bolts) and should be renewed if removed. They will have been out if the gearbox has been out.

Mate i'll no longer be using the garage/dealership that carried out the warranty work, as i'm currently taking legal action against them as they made a mess of putting the car back together and the starter fell out which ment i was without my car for another 3 days due to their standard of work but thats another story. So it wouldn't surprise me if there's another slack bolt!

I'm going to get my mate to check over everything and get his verdict but right now i'm totally fed up with the car.
