    Default temp gauge

drove 4 miles to work this morning and my temp gauge didnt move off the stop

then when i was driving home i took a detour and after about 7 miles of town driving then a little dual carriageway the temp guage had just reached 80 even tho the heating had been hot since just after i got in the car

my question is how long does it take the gauge on a 1.9cdti 150 to show a reading ?

i havent really noticed b4 but it seemed to take a hell of a long time to register a reading

i was almost on the phone to the dealer but then it started to slowly move

Its only 5 miles for me to get to work and mine only just gets to 80 by the time i get there, i think it might be normal.

Lots of threads on here about such "problems". IIRC, as the derv engine has a cast iron block (?), it will take a while to warm up. Someone else might have a better explanation.

Totally normal. In traffic on a cold day, my engine could be running for 20 mins in stop start traffic and temp needle does not move. I tend to use the diagnostic mode of the trip computer to display the temperature. In my SRi CDTi 150 with CD 30 to get to the diagnostic mode
    a) With engine running, switch on radio or CD.
    b) depress the top right button that is next to the knob (BC designated I think) for about 10 seconds, if the volume is up, you will hear a beep.
    c) Subsequent pressing of the button below the one you pressed in b) above will cycle through a diagnostic mode. One of the modes shown displays a sensor voltage in the middle of the trip display and at the bottom of the display will be "V=xxxx T=xxxx" where V is the velocity and T is the engine temp.

My temp needle starts to register at 72C

Mines pretty much the same mate. I drive about 10 miles to work and the needle is probably just about up to temp after 5-6 miles. I think the cold weather has something to do with it as well. Nothing to worry about
