    Default police and speed guns?

On the way home tonight i think i may have been going a bit fast about 37 in a 30.It was about 10.30pm roads were virtually empty.
Anyway the policeman had a speed gun pointed out of his marked police astra,he was sitting in the drivers seat with the window open on a side road just sticking out Are they allowed to use the speed gun in this way,i thought they had to be seen from like 500 metres down the road, where he was parked was on a bend with about 50 metres if that before i seen him
Dya think i may have a 60 fine and points on the way...or was he just testing his equipment,if i get a fine thats badthey were very sneaky tonight

Not being funny mate, but if you've been caught, you've been caught.

Regardless of how far away he could be spotted, he caught you. He didnt make you speed lol

they used to have to pull you over if using the hand held ones (sounds like it was a hand held one from your thread). Might be different now, but I think it's only the ones on the tripod or in the back of the vans which are fixed penalty through the post to your house - as well as the gatsos and truvelo fixed units of course.

I know it looks sneaky but his positioning sounds fine to me.

With the kind of check he was doing though i'd have expected him to follow and pull you if
he was going to take any action. Hopefully one of our residents will confirm this though.

    Fingers crossed you'll be ok.

Just been on this website Pepipoo, and it appears that they don't have to pull you over these days when using the hand held gun - you might still get an NIP through the post.

yes it was a hand held speed gun ,had it over his shoulder pointing out of the car window
i was only doing 37 as i was turning left further up the road.I think maybe he was waiting for a 60mph speeder to go past thats why he didin't pull me
hopefully i wont get a ticket in post

i wasnt being horrid earlier, i tend to speed occasionally, but i dont think they have rules on where to set up anymore. i know on the roads i use to work they have stealth traps to catch bikers

Well if it was an officer with a hand held unit, he would have come after you and stopped you and gave you the fixed penalty notice there and then, so you should be OK
