Default Anyone driven a Mazda 6?

Just to see what the interest was like, a while ago I listed my car on swapz.co.uk.

I have been offered all sorts for it, mainly old Subaru's. I did however get offered a 53 plate Mazda 6 ST2 (?) and wondered if it would be worth a try. I would keep that for a year, and then maybe get something sporty from VX, Astra VXR, or a version of the Insignia maybe.

I know opinions will be pretty biased here, but any postivie thoughts would be welcome.

I am also quite dubious about swapping it, just in case this Mazda has stuff wrong with it, plus the fact I have always been a VX man so may be out of my comfort zone!

    Thanks all.

    Mondeo huh. Hmmm!

In fairness, Mondeos are meant to have good ride quality, but I have never driven one of them either!

Maybe its worth me swapping just to try something different?

I have the new shape one - I have done 12000 miles in the last 6 months and not a rattle or squeak. Plenty of kit onboard and I like the blue and orange dials. I have the Sport Diesel Model with comes with 18" alloys - the ride is firm but not uncomfortable. The longest journey I did was Swindon to Munich non-stop and I wasn't aching when I got out of the car.

Everyone else I know who has a Mazda seems to rate their reliability and I was impressed with the dealers (always my biggest gripe with Vauxhall).

Any more info you need, feel free to ask.

    Ahh thanks.

Does the first model have orange and blue dials?

Also, what are all the lights for? There seems to be 3 clear lenses as well as a sidelight on the front, and the orange indicator!?

If they are anything like my Alfa GT then it will have all the lights including the fog lights in the headlight unit. Mine has dip, main beam AND fog in the one unit

They don't have a Mondeo chassis, despite Ford owning part of Mazda.

The wife has a Mazda 6 diesel, 138 PS - TS model on an 04 plate.

Nice car to drive, firm suspension, comfortable but not as easy to drive as the Vec, if you know what I mean. Steering is heavier, but responsive and gives good feedback. The features are good, with Cruise, Climate, decent radio, leccy windows all round, steering wheels controls etc. The TS2 give spoiler, multichanger, BOSE radio, better alloys etc.

There are a few features that I miss when driving hers, namely the indicator controls are the basic type and windows are not one touch up and down, but other than that it's OK.

In actuality I prefer to my vectra for confort and drivability, but like the power delivery of hers.

Reliability is good, not much has gone wrong. Look to see if it's had the recalls etc - and a cam belt change when necessary.

What engine is it? The petrols are a little thirty, as mu brother in law has just got rid of his 2.0, as there was a problem with the alarm keep going off and the dealer couldn't sort it. BUT he P'Xed it for a 6 estate - so he can't be that disgruntled with the car.
