    Unhappy Help removing Head Unit

    Hi again,
I've got a factory fitted Stereo in my Vectra-C, and I want to take it out. I've got the stereo pins for my make/model, but they won't fit in. The end of the pins seem to be slightly larger than the holes, and no matter how hard I try to jam them in, they won't go.. and I'm a big buy.

    Can anyone help?

I know that with some other cars, you can put other things in there such as paperclips etc, but those don't work with this either.

    Any ideas?

Its a 2003 Vectra SXi with SatNav Stereo.

I can take the small storage section out at the bottom of the central unit, just below climate control. Could I push the stereo out if I can get my hand behind it?

You need to release the catch on the sides, so I don't think pushing from behind will work. I also doubt you'd get your hand up to behind the stereo from the storage section, with the CC unit in the way.

Some guys have fashioned coathangers and used that. I bought a set of double DIN pullers from Halfords and they work a treat. They have the little hooked end to then make pulling the unit out much easier. (Reading your post again it looks like you have a set of those already?)

Just had a thought, and sorry if I'm stating the bl**dy obvious and you've already done this, but you have removed the four little allen key bolts that screw into the four holes on the unit where you need to insert the pullers?

Way back when I had my Astra SXi I changed the head unit, took me 2 hours of fiddling before I realised that there were the little allen bolts blocking the holes for the pullers, sneaky little blighters!

I have just removed mine tonight, I started with Coat hangers and gave up after they pulled out and scratched the facia, Not really upset as its coming out anyway but still not impressed,
I then bent my normal stereo removal pins so they would be wide enough to fit in the holes, The unit wass till tough to remove but plenty of gentle rocking from side to side while slightly pulling back eventually had the unit slide out.
    Regards Bren.
