New Toyota Avensis

Had a look at the new Avensis tourer today (for my next company car) & I've got to say I'm very impressed with the standard spec & trim level. Mid range T4 had elite beating spec (bar the sat nav), heated/electric/leather- nice quality leather too (not like the crap in the mid range Passat), climate, DAB radio, electric windows all round, keyless entry & start, electric steering wheel adjustment.

I'm not over sure of the front end, it's certainly not as pretty as the Vec C facelift & the headroom seemed a little cramped but the seats may have been jacked up (there was no power to the seats) It seemed dark in the back but they are fitted with dark tinted windows on the tourer. The ride height looked rather high to my Vec. Also looked like I could park my Vec in the gap between the top of the tyre & the wing.

Don't know how it compares to the Insignia, but it beats to a pulp the VAG group cars I've looked at (Passat, Touran, Golf, Octavia, Altea, the only one that comes close is the new Skoda Superb that had all the toys & presidential rear leg room, but is sooo pig ugly at the front & a plastic dash made from recycled PC monitor cases - oh & I can't have one, despite what the Skoda dealer was telling me at our corporate car event the other week.

It's not on general sale yet but I'm looking forward to a test drive hopefully in the 180ps 2.2 diesel

Should be one or two at your local dealer, the salesman said he was off to Spain next week for the launch,the two cars they had at Leicester were being taxed on the 1st for test drives.

The new superb is really really ugly, and the new VAG stuff all seems to be the same! Now they have added the front end of the new superb to the Octavia for 2009!!!

The new avensis looks a bit like the lexus stuff now! Thats no bad thing!!!

I've ordered one T4 spec tourer with a 2.2 150ps diesel, since found out that the DAB is not included so the stereo is a downgrade, but its better spec than any of the VAG cars I was offered & Vauxhall is not an option any more (unless I wanted a 2nd user company car). Should get it April/May
