    confused powering SMD's

Ive just got a quick question about smd strips. you can buy 30cm strips of smds off ebay for less than a tenner cheap to light your footwell up that runs off 12v. ive noticed on ebay that you can buy 5 meters worth for less than £60quid that can be cut every couple of centimeters.

Now my question is, if i bought the 5m, and say cut 1 meter and wanted to power it from a 12v source, is it as simple as soldering a positive and negative to the strip just like you would with say cold cathodes.

    cheers in advance

Don't forget a resistor in series to limit the current.
