    Default Signum vs Vectra

Don't want to be too controversial! But been over in Belfast for the past week and have been driving my sister-in-laws, 06 facelift 150CDTi SRi Vectra. Couldn't wait to get back tonight and drive my 54 pre-facelift 2.2 Design Signum!

Both cars have around 27k miles on them, but the difference in perceived quality is huge. The Vectra seemed to rattle more, and was jumpier on the road. And the 150CDTi engine is OK on the go, but trying to get any power in 1st, 2nd around town is nearly an accident in the making at junctions and roundabouts. I've driven VW and Ford diesels for the past few years, and they don't suffer from that much lag.

In contrast, the Signum seems more fluid in getting from AtoB, has less rattles and less noise on the road.

Is this the general difference between Signums and Vectras? Are Signum's better put together, I did read once on here that Signums have more sound proofing. Is that right? Are all 150 diesels like that?

I thought the facelift was supposed to be a better ride?

Has anyone else got experience of driving both cars one after the other? What did you think?

Just as a footnote, overall they are both great cars.

Yep, that's the longer wheelbase of the Signum, and estate - seems to make it less twitchy on the road.

Yes basically - the trims/panelling is screwed on in places on the Signum as opposed to just clipped on on the Vectra and seems to have more sound proofing.

Here's my thread from a while back when I had a facelift SRi for a couple of weeks - kinda gives my thoughts. If you read on you'll see other guys saying similar at the time.

I went from a 150CDTi Vectra SRI to a Signum 2.8 Design, and then back to a 150 Vectra.

Engines aside, the Signum was a far nicer car to drive, the fit and finish was way above that of the Vectra, it was a lot quieter on the road. When I got shut and went back to the Vectra again it felt worlds apart.

If I choose to stay with the Vec/Siggy when I purchase again then I'll definitely be going for another Signum.

Cheers Duncan, I'll have a read of that thread.

Strange isn't it, as I really had presumed that they were essentially the same car with an extended wheel base.

Agree with pricey, we've had 2 signums and 2 vectra sri's in the last couple of years and the signums are more refined and definately quieter. AS regards the cdti i test drove a signum 150cdti when i was getting rid of my 2.8 and there was basically nothing there from a standing start, yet we now have a vectra 150cdti estate and this thing is worlds apart from the signum on acceleration, if it wasn't i wouldn't have bought it. I know all cars are going to vary a little but they had similar mileage and were the same age too.

Nah, that's what the estate is!

    I have had 2 Vectra C SRi's an 04 and an 06 reg and two Signums, a V6 CDTi Elite and a 1.9 150 Design.

The Signum is for sure better put together in many area's, obviously many parts are put together in the same way. But I honestly think the Signum is the better drive.

My signum definitely feels better built than the previous vectra. Not a lot else to add, really.

Can i ask - Would it be fair to say based on those cars above, that if you went back to a Signum it would be with the 150CDTi engine?

Or if not what engine would you have in the signum?

I've just been looking at Signum's as an alternative to our search for a Vectra CDTI SRi hatch/estate. This thread has highlighted some plus's on the Signum, though i do need to find out what are the other differences between the cars.

From my other thread, you'll see our budget is around 5k, and there is a couple of 150 Elegance CDTI signum's locally within budget. I don't like the sound of the turbo lag on this engine, but what is the engine to go for on the signum?

I'm off to search for the differences between the 2 cars. Cheers

IMO the 2.0T is a quality engine but I am bias. I used to have the 2.5 V6 24v in an omega and i think the 2.0T is better than that.
Also IMO I would try and go for a Excusiv/Design/Elite if you can, rather than the elegance, But of course its personal preferance. Either way Signums rock
