Default Oh lordy!, time to start 'baby proofing' the house!!

Well we knew it would come soon enough, just wasn't expecting it to come a week shy of Cameron being 9 months old.

Mrs D left some of his clean washing on the seat part of the other sofa today, which he was sat in front of on the floor, and it was dangling a bit down the front - so naturally he grabbed it and started to pull it down!

Not wanting him to start dribbling over and messing up clean clothes, she rescued it and put in on the seat but much further back - way out of reach, or so we thought!

Next thing he's put his hands up onto the front edge of the seat cushion and pulled himself up to a standing position , and is now reaching for the clothes! Well, when I say pulled it was more pushed with his legs. We saw from an early age that he had strong legs (wonder who he gets that from! lol), so whilst not a complete surprise, still a surprise to see!

Whilst he's pulled himself up from sitting down when I've been holding his arms/under his arms, this is the first time he's done it off his own bat without anyone in contact with him. As he's been able to stand for a while now, obviously with someone holding his hands to balance him, and make a few walking movements I was curious and tried something. As he was standing, I held his hands lightly and had him facing me and I started to slowly walk backwards - he confidently and quite purposefully then walked with me, with me only holding his hands for balance and giving him no other support. He did this for quite a reasonable distance.

We've got an inkling that he's not going to bother crawling - he hasn't crawled properly as such yet - and probably just get straight to this walking malarky!

I now have a list of things to do to start baby proofing things such as any audio-visual gear that's not in the AV cupboard and is out on the open shelves under the plasma TV. Think I'll have to measure up for some custom toughened glass doors that'll fit onto the unit!

Oh the joys! lol - but I wouldn't give it up for anything.

Same here - and I've got three all pre-school.

Stair gates - they'll soon work out how to open anything too simple - pay a few quid more and get something that needs a big hand to pinch and slide the latch cos those ones with the simple sprung lever that lift out of a cradle are only secure against sub-two's!

And a latch on the inside of the bedroom door is a good idea too

A very loud NO seemed to work quite well as I recall for power sockets & all the plants disappeared after a few overturned, happy days wouldn’t change for the world. Love them to bits & their children. Happy memories

We've been looking at stair gates and were thinking the same - the simpler ones he'd have open in a jiffy when he's a bit older!

Blimey, does childbirth really have such an effect that you need to lock her in to try and get any?!

*edit* btw duncan, got a brand new lindam gate that screws into the wall here if you want it (if you don't mind covering p&p) We ended up getting two given and we won't need either for quite a few months yet
