Default Empire Direct Have Gone Bust

I was just about to place an order for a 42" Panasonic plasma TV with Empire Direct, thought I'd do it via their website rather than phone up, and I get greeted by a screen telling me ED have gone into administration and KPMG are running the show. What's the world coming to?

Hmmmm.. not good reading this. At least they went bust before you placed the order Thomas1.
Our 40" Sony TV purchased last year was from them, I also joined their loyalty club thingy which costs £20 for membership, but it allegedly increased your warranty upto 4yrs or something like that. So £20 down the pan, Knowing my luck, telly will probably pack in now...lol

I wouldn't be surprised to see big names like DSG group stores go bump, a friend of my sons who is the manager of a PC World store was telling me that DSG are having to pay for some of their stock with cash up front before companies will deliver to them. I didn't realise until I did a little checking this morning that DSG also own part or all of Pixmania.

A lot of the big companies, in this market sector are having a lot of problems at the moment...

This is mainly due, to banks not lending and people do not have the money to buy...

A lot of names that we know now, might not be around soon; hopefully this will not happen...

I cannot believe Woolworths has gone, this store was a classic and I really miss my jelly beans....

I think it was the credit insurers pulling the plug and a poor Xmas that led it to the administrators.

    Probably true...
I read a while ago that apparently more companies go bust in Jan than any other month, due to the fact that after xmas sales etc, the company would have more cash and less stock, and so is the best time for creditors to force closure.

Buyer's should always pay by credit card for expensive items that have to be ordered, shame I dont take my own advice, as the wife and I ordered a 3 seater and 2 seater settee's from Harvey's Furnishings about a month ago and had to pay 20% up front as deposit, I stupidly paid using my debit card which gives me no protection at all if they go bust, keeping my fingers crossed as the delivery date is not until the first week of March.
