    Default Cam belt change on a 51 plate veccy b

    Hey guys in laws have just had a 51 plate veccy b 1.8ls
    the cambelt was tone in 04/2005 do u think it will need to be changed in the summer as its been on the car for 4 yrs then or can it w8 and to it at 6 yrs like it say in vaux manual. Car has done 17k in 4 yrs since the belt was changed its done just 57 k at the moment

    i would recommend you do the belt and rollers at 40k or 4 years whatever comes first,also do the pump as these can fail

    Vx changed the interval to 40k or 4 years after they saw too many break within the service schedule. If the belt is 4 years old then it's best to change it now. Shouldn't be too hard on a 1.8

    cheers guys thats what i thought it was. But thought id better check. Shouldnt be a problem doing it as i have a veccy-b that loved to kill its gear box twice, and i did his last cambelt on his other veccy-b
    Any thing to know about the newer 1.8s as its a ecotec

    is the service schedule for a drive chain etc etc 4 yrs on a 2.0 DTi ?? I will be pixking my 54 plate up this week from a vauxhall dealer and if thats the case then i will get them to do it before i pick it up

    No need to change the chain matey it's good for the life of the car as long as it stays quite just change the oil on a regular basis and it's fine

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

    Yep, chains don't have a service schedule. You only change them if they start to rattle and even then some can be adjusted to tighten the chain back up.

    Ok stupid question

    Does the chain take the place of the cambelt??

    (never had a chain before and im not a top notch mechanic!)
