    Angry ABS problem

About 10 months ago locked wheels in ice, ABS kicked in and worked fine. The abs light then remained on. Tech2 stated problem with n/s hub so pal fitted new hub. Light stayed off for 2 days then came on again. Wiggled the sensor wire behind hub and light stayed off for 10 months, abs worked fine (braking on gravel etc.) ABS light back on, no amount of fiddling with wire will get it to go out. Reluctant to fit new hub as I do not think there was anything wrong with the first one.

    Anyone go any suggestions?

If you wiggled the cable and the light stayed off for 10 months i would assume the cable is now damaged/broken cable or the plug is damaged

My wife just informed me that light came off after she locked up on the ice the other day. So it seems that the activation of the abs has resulted in it malfunction?

If it was just he ice then it would correct itself on a restart. It could be the sensor that has a brokn wire in it, the sensors are only available with a new hub IIRC
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Check the sensor resistance using a multi meter on Ohms sholud be around 120ohms. Disconnect the sensor plug with the Ignition off and connect the meter probes to the terminals in the sensor end of the plug. place one probe in one terminal and the other probe in the other one (dosent matter which way round you connect them)

Checked the resistance, reading zero. So faulty sensor or dirty sensor, hopefully dirty, as hub has only been fitted for 10 months. Is it possible to clean sensor without taking hub apart e.g. spraying with WD40?

Any suggestions welcome as MOT due next month.

Would the hub be under warranty as its less than 12 months old?
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?
