Angry Help with sourcing a Diesel Particulate Filter

I have just spent a load of time and money replacing the inlet manifold (worn out swirl flaps) EGR valve (siezed and despite cleaning and WD50 still wouldn't work) and while I was on Timing belt etc. Now with the top end fixed the exhaust has blown itself into bits and I need a new front pipe and Diesel Particulate Filter. My car as you will have guessed by now is a 1.9 CDTI 150 SRI Estate You have to laugh on the most depressing day of the year (and that's official).

VX are quoting £1171.28 for the front pipe and DPF.

Has any one found these parts cheaper or does anyone know if you can remove the DPF and just stick a bit of straight through pipe in. I don't fly so my carbon footprint is already very low .

Drew, (sick as a turkey on thanksgiving)

holy st! I think your best bet is going to be a breakers' yard, AFAIK there's no way to remove a DPF from a running car that should have one.

Is there any sensors on it? Maybe a pressure sensor?

I think so it can measure a pressure differntial across it on the diagnostics so I guess it has

Yikes! I know it wasn't well when we meet at the NE meet, but what's caused the exhaust to blow itself to bits?

If you could fool the ECM into thinking the (present) DPF didn't need a regen then you could fit a straight through pipe, safely in the knowledge that an active regen won't happen......

I'm not saying you should, but the possibility is there.

Duncan, I was suspecting it might be choked but had my fingers crossed it would regenerate its self once the other bits were fixed. It ran like a dream the day after the manifold was fixed but then back to being bad the day after. I checked the egr and that was goosed, tried to get it working but it kept going into limp mode. 2 miles from the dealers after picking up the new egr the car stopped, no power, I replced the egr on the road side fired it up and the exhaust blew apart. Don't know why but I can't stop laughing.....
