    Default Pre Heating System??

    Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and looking for advice - i've done a few searches but can't seem to find what i need.

After about 4 weeks of owning the car (2.0 DTi 04) with no problems the spanner light come on, on Christmas day .

It comes on and then goes off once the engine has been running for a few seconds. It only happens when the engine is cold. If it has a little heat in it the light doesn't come on, so from what i've read could this be the pre-heating system??

Any advice on what i can do to resolve this one (without getting the codes read)? Another thread specified cleaning the boost sensor may work for this fault, but not sure where this would be on the 2.0dti?

    Thanks,
    David

Sounds like it's just a stored fault code, TBH. If the light goes out it's nothing to worry about

If it was a stored fault code wouldn't it appear everytime?

It doesn't seem to effect performance / consumption etc, but if it was a stored code i thought it would disappear after x amount of starts?

Just think it's odd how it only comes on when the engine is stone cold

    Cheers,
    David

I had the same thing on my 1.9 turned out to be one of the glowplugs was down.

hence the only happening when it's cold.

changed them and it's not happened since.

agree with the above, you'll have one or more defective glow plugs causing this problem.

I've phoned a couple of places and they have specified that there are two engine codes for my Vectra??? I've checked the documentation I've got with the car but it doesn't specifiy which it is - I've also had a look under the bonnet but can't find it stamped anywhere either.

Can anyone help me on this one, it's a 2004 2.0DTi LS Vectra - I've been told the engine code could be Y20DTH / X20DTH - or am I going to have to contact Vauxhall?

    Cheers,
    David

Just to agree with the above the eml on just after start up on a cold DTi is deffo telling you the glow plugs are in need of changing.

Why not give your local VX dealer a ring & give them the reg plate, they will tell you exactly which you need & to be honest they're not that much dearer from the dealer either.

just take care when replacing them, a snapped plug is a head off job...

    Default

    ring Vauxhall

im sure mine was listed on the security card along with the stero code

the other solution would be to pull a plug out and see what the code printed on it is as this will be the plug model and just give them that ? it's what i did since they had the wrong plug listed for my car
