    Default 3.0ltr cdti or vxr?

hi, i am thinking of changing my car and fancy a 280vxr vectra, dont like the £400 tax though i currently have a pre facelift vectra3.0ltr cdti diesel which is quite quick and a good car, so does anyone know if i would be happy with the performance of a vxr 280 after my oil burner? is there a big difference? thanks tony.

Hi, I test drove both and decided on th 3.0 diesel. The VXR is an excellent car but the ride is very hard and the power was so much in your face that I don't think that I could have sat in one for any length of time.
I am very happy with my 08 3.0V6. I have only done 3500 miles and it is a more refined engine than the cdti150 which I used to have.

In a word - yes, there is a big difference. The 280 VXR will wipe the floor with the 3.0 CDTi - simple as that - and with the way the engine delivers it's power i.e. smoothly, you can still drive it around town/more sedately with ease.

hi duncan, so would you prefer the vxr then? i know mine puts out 174bhp and 280 on the vxr so theres over 100bhp difference which is a lot i guess the only way is to test drive one, if there was not much difference then i would not bother but if you think there is a big difference think i will try one! thanks tony.

For me it would be the VXR - no contest, but it's all down to what you want out of a car and circumstances. Yep, 280 compared to 174 is a helluva difference!

Best bet is to go and give one a spin and see what you think.

ok.. I've driven both and they are completely different cars in the way the power is delivered.

If you like the torque in your 3.0 CDTi... you wont feel any difference in the standard VXR280.. it'll be so close that it just isnt worth paying out for a VXR, so I would bet you wont be impressed by the standard 280 VXR.

However, if you get the VXR remapped to 305BHP and 400 Lb/ft (which is what I did)... then not only will you have extra 'pulling' power, but you have all this through a longer rev range... so it goes on and on and on... great ... then you WILL be impressed for sure.

Imagine all your 3.0 CDTi torque + loads more (over 100Lb/ft more )... and THEN be able to do 40mph in 1st gear, 75mph in 2nd gear, 110mph in 3rd gear.... etc etc etc - pulling like a train !!!

If you like to keep your pennies nicely stacked up in the corner. The VXR is not for you. Its expensive to run and maintain, but remapped, its brilliant and worth every penny.
