    Default Oil Consumption

Hi, just a little line about something that I've just remembered, the 2.0 DTi engine has a reputation for oil usage, if you own one of these, make sure you check the oil after the car has stood for at least 4 hrs, the dipstick will show a low reading otherwise, as I remember the 1st time I reported it the mechanic said the oil doesn't drop back to the sump as quick as normal on these, hence giving a false reading at the stick, I knew he was right because after servicing the car I took a reading after a 20 mile drive and it was low, didn't add anymore and left it till the next day and the stick was showing full, I know my old one 98 on an S plate used to use about a litre between 10k services.

Am I right in thinking that this engine has been replaced because of euro emissions law? and not because Vx really wanted to replace it.

Oil Consumption? What's that then? I've done 40.000 miles in mine in 18 months, all I've put in it fluid wise is diesel and screenwash!! And yes I do check it weekly!!

Some do use a bit Andrew, it's a common report to dealers on 2.0 dti's, if yours doesn't then you either got a really good one or your driving style is good.

I prefer to think it's the latter old boy!!

But then mines the 2.2DTi, which I've also heard scare stories about.

I had the 2.0 DTi in my old Vec B. Never had to top up between services. Car had done 95K when I traded, mainly motorway.
It is not Euro 4 compliant, therefore cannot be used soon. Anyway, the 1.9 CDTi common rail is a far more controllable engine, and also more powerful.

My 2.0Dti C doesn't use a drop of oil either, and its the 2.2 petrol chain thats the dodgy one, not the diesel.

I'm sure you will find the 2.2 petrol engine has a rubber belt and nylon rollers and they do give out if not changed at intervals, I know the rollers were an issue way back due to breaking up at any mileage, DTi's use a chain and are generally good, but the 2.2 DTi has been known to snap chains and the reason for it is the oil feed drys up and the chain suffers for it, doesn't seem to affect 2.0 DTi's though.

I thought only the Omega 2.2 petrol had the belt drive and all vectras with the 2.2 petrol had chain drive, which snapped due to lack of oil feed, didn't think the Dti's were affected.
