    Default antenna on rear window

    on my hatchback ive had an antenna since bought off last owner, doesnt appear to be any wires atached, but dont want to pull it off incase anything to do with sat nav, anyone got one on theres?

    It should be OK to remove, as it's probably from an old Mobile telephone kit. To be sure post up a picture.

    Is it not for an in car phone? my dad use to have them on his company cars. That is the only time I've seen them on the rear window. HTH

    i can get a pic tommorow, there are no wires to it, so not sure what its for, wouldnt a mobile antenna have a wire?

    Not necessarily. From what you've described it's an old mobile phone twig. The outer bit is obviously on the outside and the inner bit used to be glued to the inside of the glass covering the base of the outside twig.

    Could just be that they've left the outside bit on and removed (quite easily as it's only glued to the glass) the inner bit (amplifier box) and associated wiring.

    There were also mobile phone booster aerials, same as above but without any wiring. The teory being that your mobile transmits it's signal to the booster aerial and then to outer space or whatever.

    EDIT - you can often tell what the aerial is for by the shape of it but will need a pic for this. If you can't get a pic up, trawl through this site until you find something similar and let us know http://www.panorama.co.uk/uk/products/Catalogue.html
