    Default engine conversions

before i start i dont want a page full of ppl telling me to sell the car and buy a new one, there is a very genuine reason i have a cat d vectra that is now not worth much but its low milage and in VERY good condition and it WILL be cheaper for me to get everything needed for a conversion from my dad that just happens to be a vauxhall breaker lol.

right after doing some searching there are alot of ppl that just point blank say its not possible because of the can bus, do these ppl actually know why and what the problem is or is just you cannot do it because of the can bus a easy thing to say.

there must be a point that you can go back to where you will change enough that it is not a problem,

info from anyone that has done a conversion would be good #

    thanks in advance

not done one myself but i think the following bits would be worth taking a note... People that are saying issues with canbus its not the canbus itself its whats the different modules are looking for and expecting to receive from each unit. If you change the engine you must get the wiring loom to go with it. The engine and wiring loom is pretty much self contained as a seperate system. The fusebox is easy enought to change for the donor car if it comes to a point where the engine loom is part of it. You'll probably run into problems with pairing up the engine ECU with the other modules but a good tech2 session which someone experienced will be able to sort that out.

You may need the CIM from the donor car too because I'm not 100% sure if they need to match before you can add new keys.. Cant remember if the engine ECU is part of the immobiliser system. Could probably dig into that and have a look later.

If you do go for the conversion try to get parts from the approx year of the cat d car as so minimise possibility of connectors being different.

also re: the tech2 session not sure if you have to alter the other modules to match the VIN of the engine ECU or if you can just recode the engine ECU to your existing VIN (which after thinking about it as i type is more likely the easiest route) Do expect snags along the way but we'll try to help as we can.

Good luck with this If you have any other ???'s give us a shout

    CAN bus IS the wiring.

Yes, it can be done - I don't think anyone who knows what they are on about says it can't.

The hassle though would be quite considerable, so is the expense and you also must have a friendly VX dealer (or other with Tec2) and a means of moving the car about in order to program and test.

Actually CANBUS is the wiring which links the modules together.

The other wiring which comes off of the modules isnt canbus

Simple things like The CIM and petrol pump are linked as part of the Immobiliser system, so as said Its not strictly that it cant be done, its the amount of work involved that's the pain. For Instance, Courtenay Sport Supercharge the 2.2 in Vec B, Astra, Zaffy and VX220 but cant do it on the Vec C, purely down to linking modules. From what I have heard you would be the first to do it, and I tell you, if you manage it you will be a very busy person as i'm sure plenty want to do this.

PS, from memory on an older thread, is it A1 Vauxhall your old man has?

I didn't mean the entire wiring harness, just the data link hardware
