    Default Had an Accident Earlier

I was driving to my girlfriends brothers to drop the car off with him to take a look at some stuff for me earlier this evening when i had an accident. Was coming off a roundabout on a dual carrageway when a 14 year old girl ran out into the road. I braked and swerved and she hit off the side of my car damaging the drivers side mirror. Got out expecting the worse to find her and her friends walking away. I called them back and asked her if she was ok etc and txt my girlfriend to get local police number. Then my phone died. I took down the girls address and got her to call her mum. All the time they were saying can you not just drive off and let us go to macdonalds and say something else happened to your car. ER no.

She phoned her mum and i took the phone and explained what happened and her dad came to pick her up. I didnt want them just wandering off. Her dad came and i explained again and offered my details but he said it was fine ans asked if i wanted him to pay for the damage and said his neighbour works in a garage if i need anything.

Dropped the car off as planned and got karen to take me to local police station where i gave details as a non reportable accident to the desk, which they suggested was the best thing to do.

Then had the police at the door earlier to take a statement from me and ask me few questions. Aparantly she is fine apart from a bruise on her leg and has admitted she ran out into the road and into the car. Police said i have nothing to worry about and have done the right things so am a lot more relieved now that i have spoken to them, know the girls ok and has admitted / confirmed what happened.

I will admit i was shiking like a leaf after it. My worst fear driving is hitting someone let alone a kid. At one point i didnt know if i wanted to get behind the wheel again but there was nobody hurt, nothing i could have done to avoid it so just have to move on. It could have been really bad but only thing hurt is my mirror glass and a crack in the housing.

yeah the mirror can be easily fixed but ironically if id spotted earlier or braked harder she would have hit the front of the car but anything could have happened just glad it didnt.

Been really worried and got a scare but after being interviewed i am a lot more relaxed now. I drive a van all day with work as well so not a good feeling. Just got to move on i guess but had it been worse that would have been me i simply couldnt have got behind the wheel again.

Must have been a bit of a scare for you.
I did that to a car driver when I was about that age I crossed the road as the lights were changing to green and got hit!! I just got up and run away!! (scared) You did the right thing reporting it and getting all the information.
It was not your fault and only some minor damage.

I had this happen to me, 13 yr old, out from the house between parked cars, I got him with the mirror and as he went over the rear wheel snapped his leg, if I'd been a fraction later he would've gone under the car or been on the hood, shakes you up I can tell you, but as long as you are 100% sure you did nothing wrong you must not give yourself a guilt trip about it, if you feel bad even in a few days time go to the hospital they have ppl to talk to about it there, it effects all in different ways, mine was 20 years ago I told myself I'd done nothing wrong and didn't put myself through it, but I'll never forget that day and hope the lad made a full recovery and it hasn't hampered him in life in any way.
