alot of cars do this, especially petrols, as the battery capacity is lower than one fitted to a diesel, plus petrols have spark plugs to fire. The alternator wont kick out top current until 1500 revs, so the car is struggling to run eveything at low revs. Diesels have bigger capacity batteries so the car can use that as a reserve when the alternator is at low output. fitting a diesel spec battery may eradictate the issue. I did this on my old Cav V6 when i fitted some amps and a subwoofer and the flickering lights dissapeared.

If this happens at low RPM when parking or driving this will be the steering pump robbing the power from the lights..It's very common and caused by the electric pump..This pulls over 80amps and so at tickover it is quite a strain on the electric system..If you've never had a car with an electric pump before it can be alarming but it's quite normal..
