Default Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction

    Help me please!
My car went into limp home mode last night and refuses to come out of it.
After putting it on a diagnostic computer the following code came up.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Malfunction P0400
What does it mean and how do I get it repaired?
He's mentioned a new cat, does this sound realistic or is it soething simple?

He thinks you need a new cat due to an EGR fault code stored?! RUN!, run for the hills!!! lol

Seriously though, the first thing I'd look at if it was me was the EGR vale itself and there's a good chance it just needs a damn good clean - common thing on cars with EGR valves.

If your egr valve was cruded up did you also clean your boost sensor and the manifold it sits on , also check your vacuum hoses for leaks splits and cracking (common fault on the dti,s).

Or alternately turn on and off the ignition and disconnect the battery within 15 seconds - which will then stop the alarm from sounding.

Thank you all for your help.

He did clear the fault but the dreaded car and spanner kept comming back on!
Its going back in to the garage tomorrow for another go. Wish us luck, i'd hate for this to turn into a massive problem.
