Cheers to the pilot doing a great job.![]()
How many people read a paper when the emergency briefings are taking place???
When I worked for an airline, the operations manual said that a 737, "should remain floating for long enough to evacuate the passengers" in the event of a landing on water. That's true, and if you gently lowered the 'plane onto a river with a crane it would float.
Putting it down gently enough so it didn't dig it's nose or tail in and break up with no engines was the skillful bit. A modern jet liner isn't really designed for gliding, and tends to resemble a stremlined brick without power. The pilot (who according to the BBC this morning is a crash investigator and export on air safety) has my highest regards for his skill. I've flown 737 and 767 simulators (I used to fix them for a living) and handling them at low speed and low altitude is incredibly hard.

Wish i was on it - how exciting would that have been![]()
I bet he forgot all about the passengers seated behind him and switched to survival mode. He would have wanted to save his own ar$e at that stage...for sure.
Well done anyway, very skillfull.
Thumbs up for the pilot,he did a great job there and deserve's a medal.........![]()
