Default Alpine headunit and steering wheel controls...

I have just tried fitting the AudioLeads PC99-X06 and the PC99-ALP cables in my 53 plate pre-face lift Vectra C SRi, in the hope of getting steering wheel control of my Alpine CDE-9850ri head unit. It didn't work for me, just wondering if any other members have had success with this set up?

Give In Car Technologies a ring on 01420 540277. Part number 29-801 is to fit an Alpine to a CanBus Astra, but I would've thought it'd work with a Vec, too.

edit: Might not work. Just noticed yours is a 53 (should've read the post properly!) and this interface is for 54 onward I think. This is the company recommended by Alpine anyway, so they might have a solution.

It worked for mine, if you like I'll try and get the unit out of the dash tomorrow and see what wires go where for you. Our cars are virtually identical it seems, even down to the headunit, so I can't see how it would work for mine and not yours.

Thanks Andrew, but don't go to any trouble... I know how much of a pain it is removing the head unit! I was a bit puzzled with the audio leads interface as to a pair of orange wires with a male and female connector on... no indication in the instructions as to what they were for! Also I thought the 3.5mm plug that goes in the back of the alpine headunit went in a bit too easy... but as you said I would have expected it to work! I wonder if its something to do with CAN bus, but I dont think the steering controls on my veccy are canbus... the old vdo 2005 certainly isnt canbus, though I did have a ncdr2003 sat nav in there for a while.

No probs, bud. If you change your mind or curiosity gets you, PM me, we'll sort something out next time I'm coming to see Cardiff play.

In the mean time, John Klies of Reading fitted mine, using those leads, Maybe give them a call to see if they'll help. call 0870 770 2860.

They did have to wire an Ignition feed to the wire that controls the wheel buttons apparently, but I chickened out of fitting this myself!!!!!!

Bu99er. Looks like I'm pulling mine out the weekend!!

Have you tried disconnecting the power, leaving it a bit and trying again? I read somewhere that these new units have to 'learn' about things they are connected to.

Well fitted the Alpine 9850 ri...sounds great

But I have the same problem with steering controls.

I have the PC99-X06 and PC99-ALP but no joy....Think I saw a post relating to no power to the steering control unit interface.

Question is what wire do i wire to what?

I have wired the Canbus interface link too the Cigarette lighter so it only works with ignition on. Thought this would be enough for the PC99-X06 loom too...evidently not

Any ideas would be much appreciated peeps.

    Thanks

Well i think AndrewSRi has and I am about too... i hope...just need advice on powering the PC99-X06

The Alpine sounds awsome with the normal VX speakers...surprisingly.
