    Default Tyre sizes

I need to replace a couple of tyres in the coming week. Car is currently on Michelins and they are 215/55/ZR 17. Been in a few tyre shops and trawled the net and they seem to be a rare (and expensive) size. I don't want anything cheap and nasty and best price I've had is £150 each from a local tyre fitter (beating all the internet firms by some margin)

It got me wondering what other size I could fit without affecting handling/safety that may increase my choice.

Give Kingswinford Tyres a call, you might save enough to cover the cost of fuel

Are you certain they're 215/55/17, not the standard 215/50/17?

The safe way forward (and listed in the VX owners handbook) is 225/45/17. These are shed loads cheaper and much more options.

Me, I've got the same as DitchP, the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 (£100 fitted around here) http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Un...ainsport-2.htm but the Falken 452 or 912 are also favoured by many.

What does the handbook list for tyre sizes on your model? (I assume that you still have teh Peugeot?).

225-50-17 would be the direct replacement, you're pretty safe assuming one width up you go down one profile. They're about the same price as 215-50-17, about £110 a tyre off mytyres for the cheaper premiums (ER300, NCT5, PZeros, etc).

225-50 is below 2% different to the stock tyres, so it's a safe change and marginally cheaper. 225-45-17 is no good, it's 5.1% too small.

Why not get some Pirelli's Paul, they are normally 65% the price of a Mich.
