Angry How do you think VX will charge for...

    Hey guys,

Well after taking my car to VX 3 times now, an Exhaust specialist and somewhere else. I think I'm going to see if getting the Cam Chain, Pullies, Water pump and Auxillary belt (Fan belt?) replaced will get rid of the horrendous metalic rattle that my car produces when pulling away!

All 5 have told me its not any part of the exhaust, not a heat shield, not a loose panel etc... but what they cant tell me is... WHAT IT IS!

Now, after putting up with it for 4-5 months, its just getting worse and is doing my nut in! I'm fed up of paying £35-£55 each time for fault finding... only to read each time... NO FAULT FOUND...! ARGGHHHHH!

So what do you think? Do I / Should I replace these parts?

One thing to try would be to take of the auxbelt and see if it is a pulley, you could also try spraying all the pulley's with wd40 before you start the car to see if it does it then, that way at least you will know you are in the right area.

My wifes last car had an annoying rattle that no-one could source, in the end it turned out to be the cat breaking up inside.

That I would say is a very good and logical solution.

The wifes car cat rattled just as you pulled away, lasted a year before collapsing inside and blocking the exhaust, she just managed to get it home.So if it is the cat I don,t think its got long to go!!

shouldn't be a bother - the one in the pipe under the gearstick area is only the last of a bunch of emissions kit - including other cats. My dad used to do the de-cat thing on American imports (mostly Jeeps, before they became officially imported, so it's a while back) - saves a good few hundred quid (more if it's imported - £700 for one about 15 years ago).

IIRC there's a mention of a successful retest in one of the recent stainless decat builds that listed hereabouts...
