    Default Price for cambelt change

Just hit 50k in my 1.8, so time for the cambelt change I think. Been quoted £245 by a local garage, includes a new waterpump.

What does everyone think? Good price?

I'll check with VX as a point of comparison anyway, but would prefer to give the work to the small local garage. Not used them before, but they have a good rep and even take you home while the car is being done and pick you up when it's finished... now that's service!

£250 was the quote for a CDTi, the 1.8 should be the same, it's the same amount of work.

And have a new drivebelt put on at the sametime.

Can you DIY?? The cambelt kit (includes belt, rollers and tensioner) is £60 and the water is about £40 from VX.

There's something not right there, it shouldn't be anywhere near that, I paid £420 for belt, pump, tensioner and auxbelts for my Superb, and that has to have the front end of the car taken off to do it, that was at VW btw.
