    Default Help needed please

Hi ive got an 03 vectra 2.2 automatic. Been having a problem for a couple of weeks when at traffic lights in D with my foot on brake and the engin is ticking over at about 750 revs then every now and again the revs drop and you can feel it shuder then climbs back up to 750 revs but a couple of times its stalled alltogher. I have also noticed that the engin breaking when slowing down seems a little harsh aswell allways when it gets to 20 mph this started around the same time but dont know if its related. Eveything else seems perfect and when its going alls normal . Any help or advice would be welcome.

You don't mention what sort of mileage the car's done but I guess your first port of call has to be the auto box fluid. Get the level checked and the condition of the oil.

If it's done over 50k (can't recall what VX say about auto fluid change intervals), changing the gearbox oil would be good anyway and see if things improve.

The drop in revs may not be related to the gearbox but I've no idea as to what it could be.

Just had a look at the Haynes manual which covers the 2.2 and the auto fluid change is every 36000 miles or 4 years, whichever is sooner. This is also confirmed in the VX service handbook that came with my car, albeit issued in 2002/2003.

If it's any help, I also experienced harsh downchanges on my 3.2 V6 auto and decided to change the fluid. Mine had done 65000 miles and there was no record of the fluid ever been changed, despite having a FSH up to 48000 miles. What a difference new fluid made.
