Default Just been to my first GKR Karate lesson

Basically a guy knocked on the door on Saturday drumming up business for GKR and I said I was quite interested, but have never done anything like it before.

I know of GKR as a woman at work does it. I had a chat with the guy and decided to give it a go and paid for a 4 month trial.

Then Sunday I had second thoughts and called the guy back to cancel the cheque but he managed to talk me into going along and giving it a go, he would hold the cheque for me.

I'm so glad he talked me into it. I really enjoyed it tonight. Yes my legs are flipping hurting and its the most exercise I've done in 15 years (since I was at school) but I really liked it.

Everyone was so friendly and they made me feel welcome. I called the guy back after the lesson and told him to bank the cheque.

I would recommend to anyone if your thinking of doing something like this, go for it.

Glad you enjoyed it mate. My daughter has done Karate for 11 years now and is 2nd Dan in Shotokan. She is on the KUGB England Kata Squad and the England Kumite squad. Been national champion a few times. I'm very proud. Stick at it, it's a great social thing too

I have kickboxed for 20 years, teached it for 6 (stopped when work wouldnt allow me the time)...
Loved every minute of it, fantastic form of disapline. I used to teach 8 - 12 year olds and it did them the world of good..

Here here. All the kids at our club are great kids. They have manners, respect (for themselves and others), They're thoughtful and a lot of the time they improve at school too. My daughter is now a Sensei and it gives here an enormous amount of satisfaction to teach the kids. I used to Wado Ryu when i was younger but gave up. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made, I'd probably have been 4th or 5th dan by now.

Thats a fantastic and huge acheivement your daughter has completed there mate - hats off to her...

It really is great when you see how it changes kids... Synic's say that you are just teaching kids to fight..... there was a friend of mine who wouldnt let his boy come to my class due to this, all I asked was that he come and watch just one of my classes, he did this and signed his little boy up straight away - Steve, the boy is now 18 and is a UK kickboxing champ!!

I very nearly gave up too mate when work wouldnt allow me all the time.. I used to spend 2 nights a week teaching and then Saturday training myself - now I just train and glad I didnt drop that...

There were a few kids in the class and a few joined tonight like me. Your right, the kids in the class were great, very well behaved and were listening and learning from the adults (not just their parents) before the actual class began.

If I stick at it (hopefully I will) when my lad is old enough I will definitely try and get him interested.

TBH a lot is down to the teacher also... Kids in my class would not even think about mucking about and using the sport in circumstances that were not approperate, thats not down to being scared of me or anything like that, its down to the respect and the disapline that you teach about the sport, themselves, you, and everyone in the class... Thats the first message of my classes ..

Absolutely, that really came across tonight as well. I was a bit worried that the respect thing would be 'too' serious but it all just made sense and clicked if you know what I mean
