Default My thoughts on the CD70 Navi

Ok so now I’ve had a bit of time to get to fiddle properly with the CD70 Navi!

This isn’t a rant – hopefully someone can shorten my “bad points” list with advice.

I’ll start with what I think are the good points:

    • Plays MP3 – ability to select track/album
    • Good sound quality
    • GPS signal is very quick
    • Sat Nav does actually get you around Ok (see bad points below!)
    • Board computer seems accurate enough
    • Easy to use
    • Traffic info & map

Now here’s what I think are the bad points:

    • Maps are very ugly – all those pink and horrible red colours
    • Map quality is awful – thin white line
    • Can’t have “North Up” on the map AND keep the white arrow in the centre of the screen
    • No 3D view
    • Only 4 digit postcodes
    • Cannot pause a CD – have to lower volume or switch to radio
    • No mute button
    • No scrolling text for MP3
    • Can’t see track times AND track name together
    • Can’t change any of the default colours
    • The traffic info doesn’t seem to come into play when navigating – it doesn’t help me avoid congestion automatically
    • I hate the “Warning” message every time I start the Navi system – ideally it would go straight to the map

I have the latest software update, and the latest maps.

So far, I haven’t had to use my Nokia GPS or TomTom – so for that reason, it is proving very useful (fingers crossed).

    Cheers

Ref Postcodes - they can be up to 5 digits like RG27 9 - not ideal but workable.

Ref No CD Pause - you could switch to Radio then mute, not an ideal solution though...

Ref No Mute - Hold the power button in for a few seconds - volume mutes. press briefly or rotate (I think) to un-mute.

Ref Traffic Info and navigating - There is a setting somewhere about using Dynamic Guidance - make sure it is on. Mine will warn of traffic situations ahead and I have the choice of carrying on (press nothing) or detour round the problem.

Ref Warning. Yes it is annoying!

The CD pauses if you mute, so no need to switch to radio.

Yep - that's switched on. So far it hasn't done anything, but we'll see!

    The mute tip is excellent!

Stunted postcodes used to be an annoying thing abt my old Navman unit - but TomTom's have had it for ages, as has my current unit, a Becker z200 which, despite being German, i the only one I've used so far to include 'Please' at the start or very close to the start of each instruction. It's more of a request than an instruction. Plus it has TMC Pro, trip view, journey waypoints, plus speed limit database and adjustable - erm - 'overspeed' warning...

    Press Info>scroll to Route List.

    Navigation needs to be active.
