Thanks for the info folk, i had noticed that its last two services that 10/40 had been put into the engine, so was thinking this should be the one to use??
Also that the service handbook says 0w/30!!

Yip, it appears that some dealerships are using 10w40 as standard, without either asking or letting the owner know that 5w30 should be used
Since yours is a 2003 model it should be on oil that meets GM-LL-A-025
You can raise this as a technical query with VX, get it writing, take that email to your VX dealership and get them to change to the correct oil

It's your discretion what oil to use as topups, given 10w40 oil has been used on the service
I used to use 5w40 from TESCO as its not going to be in the engine for more than 10K miles
I've not got myself a 5 litre of 5w30 oil, so will be using that from now on

As a top up, 10W-40 should be OK but don't leave it too long until you change the lot for 5W-30 or keep having to top up with 10W-40.

Ok guys thanks for the info!!
I been & got some 10w/40 for doing a top up, but yes it will get oil & filter change in the spring. Its been a while since it had been serviced so i doubt they'd do much about oil change now??
    m8internet,
I shall be bringing this up with the dealers though!!

Very good deal - Fuchs develop and supply most of the european factory oils. Good chance the car came from the factory with Fuchs in it. VW group use Fuchs to develop their oils too.
