    Default Oil TopUps

how often do you need to top up your oil??? I'm new to diesel and since buying my 1.9 cdti 150 (6 months ago) i've put a litre of oil in. I've done 10000 miles and i have a bit of a lead foot . Is this normal?

The manual states that up to a litre per 1000 miles is normal! so based on that you're doing okay. Not sure how it compares to 'real life' driving though - I'm sure 1.9 owners will be along to comment.

To be honest, at 10K miles I would be doing an oil and filter change anyway... I know that the 'book' says 20k, but for me thats too long, especially for a turbo charged engine.. Clean oil is quite important.

5w30 fully synth at 10k max for me.... (150BHP CDTI 2005)

My previous Vectra B 2.0 went through 1 litre every 6000 miles, perfect timing between services

My current Vectra C is going through about 1 litre every 8000 miles, which is roughly three months

Not used anything until it got to 100K (1.8 petrol) and only needed to top up once. Done an oil change since - so I'll keep more of an eye on it.

To be honest 1 litre / 6000 miles seems excessive to me, even if VX say it ok and within spec. Depends how much stick you give it....

Thats 20L in between services And at VX prices thats £160 of oil. My dealer said 1L per 1k was too much, ended up getting it sorted under warranty, I must say though thats for a petrol.

aint noticed mine dropping yet like??... but i know that in the merc engines.. mainly the new lowash ones, we advise that you may need to top up every 1,000miles until the engine is beded in.

If only North West Ambulance were aware of this!
1 of their engines blew due to having now oil... and it was on 10k lol. only a month old too!

It's not 1litre/6000 miles, it's 1litre/1000 miles that's acceptable according to the manual! (for all engines). Well it's actually 0.6litre/1000km in the manual which is 1litre (rounded)/1000miles. I agree, it's excessive to me as well! If my engine was using that amount of oil, even if it was a diesel, I'd be a bit concerned.

Yep, as above I'd be wanting the car looked at if it was using that much. Thankfully my 2.0T doesn't use a drop.
