    Default Another emission light on

Yep, now have the orange engine sign permanently lit on the instrument panel. Seems a regular thing according to the threads I've been reading. Would just like to know if anyone has changed their lambda sensor themselves and had a successful outcome, eg. did it solve the light coming on again or does the light need to be reset once it's changed, is this what it will be in most cases or would you be sure and pay for tech 2 first.
I've been searching the net for the correct one for my car (have the Z20 NET turbo), seems they're all around £70-£90 for that particular engine but have one site coming up with options for a front and a rear sensor, have I got 2 then, local motor factor says only one, now I am confused, wanna make sure it's the right one don't I. Car has 55k on clock but not suffering any noticeable change in fuel consumption. Any ideas gratefully received, thanks.

You'll have two lambda sensors on yours - one before the cat, one after it.

Before you shell out for a lamda as they aren't cheap, as you've seen, try disconnecting the battery first for a short while and that will reset the light. I had mine come on once, in cold weather, and I reckon it was just a blip in the system. Once I did that it never came on again.

Thanks for the reply Dunc, tried it and it worked for the first 3 miles, then it came back on again, ah well, looks like an expensive trip to the stealers, .

Angry Emissions light sorted, DEFINITELY NOT !

Got my car into Vx Speacialist (or so I thought) on Monday. Had diagnostic test and roadtest £30. Showed up as a fault with lambda sensor in catalyst, mechanic mentioned position 1. Paid £81 + vat for part (no.55351836) to be ordered in for Wed (the credit crunch is hitting the stealers then), missus paid for the labour and took the car away yesterday. 2 mile down the road 'hey presto' the light is back on again. Back she goes with car to get it back on the diagnostic tester were they revved the guts out of it ('Free of charge' mentioned the receptionist, WTF, glad I wasn't there), it came up with exactly the same fault. They took it in for a couple of hours again today for a more in depth look and are supposed to be getting back to me tomorrow with a price for it to be sorted , luckily I'm off tomorrow so getting prepared now.
I usually attempt my own DIY on the motor but I never attempted this one myself because I couldn't determine which of the two sensors were at fault and wasn't gonna buy both, thought a specialist would be able to sort it out instead. Now it looks like I might be replacing both of them. Gonna suggest an emissions test tomorrow to see if that shows anything obvious, MOT looming next week as well, typical.
Anyone have any ideas, suggestions or similar occurances ?

    Trim : half leather

    Engine : 2.0 turbo petrol

    Year : 2003

    Mileage : 149,000

    Default

if they have changed a sensor and charged you for it and is still not fixed surely they cannot charge you again as it is down to them not fixing it. all they have done is charge you for changing a part that has not fixed your problem.
i have the same problem at the moment with mine same engine as yours this is why i did not want to take mine to stealers. first i want to try a few things.
can someone PLEASE PLEASE take a pic of where the egr valve is on my car so i can take it off and clean it and i will try disconnecting the battery tomorrow.

    Angry Another sensor causing problem

Thought I'd call in this morning at VX specialist to find out the outcome of the emissions light diagnosis mystery. Trying to tell me that there is another sensor in the Cat (not the lambdas) that is throwing up the fault code, they were going to ring today with part price but I had to go out. The mind boggles, sounds like whatever part it is seems to be hard to get hold of as no phone calls here today. Keep you posted folks in case others have the same problem.

Thumbs up Emission Light now OFF

RESULT , Got the other (3rd) sensor fitted today FOC at my local VX specialist, apparently it's in the CAT and is what was throwing up a fault code. Not sure of the part number or price (got no paperwork) and not had time to view location in the cat yet myself but anyone who's recently changed their Lambda sensor in posistion 1 and still got the dreaded emissions light on should probably try this next if it applies to all engines, hope it helps.
