For what they cost and the ease of changing i'd get them done m8. Less than £20 a pair.
45500 miles they are probably shot anyhow!
To be honest buddy for the price of them and the fact they have done big mileage i would change them anyway you should have change from £25 pound for the pair even cheaper from ebay last ones i got cost me £15 the pair delivered and only 30 mins to change both sides !!!!!
Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!
If you go over rough ground they tend to make a noise. also if you hold the "rod" and pull and push it away from it,s mounting "ie" trying to pull it off and push it back again, if it shows signs of movement if it is knackered.
Mot. When we took Larisa B in for it,s mot. The tester (my mate) said Ed your drop links are knackered ( I knew they were) he said It is NOT MOT FAILABLE though. I have since changed them, and there is no noise when we go over a bump.
The Mc pherson strut is the front spring "like" set up.
If the bearing at the top was worn out you might get anoise put more like play (movement).
Macpherson strut is the front suspension leg on your car and yes it could make it clunk but it would also affect the handling on yours as you have Bilstein B6's fitted to yours so i would go for the drop links first as they are the cheapest,if i remember the struts are about £150 each and you should change in pairs !!!!!!!!
