I have a weird problem with my dashboard lights. Simply put, when you put the outside lights on side lights or normal, the interior lights do not come on apart from the steering controls and drivers & passenger controls.
The interior courtesy light doesn't come on either, no matter if you open the doors or push the button.
The Car Radio lights and the radio display comes on ok when you turn the radio on and / or start the engine.
Here’s the weird bit….If you put the blowers on (no matter what setting) and you turn on any the lights that are supposed to come on the blowers go off. (i.e. turning on the headlamps, pushing the courtesy light button, opening the glove compartment or opening the doors). The only way for the blowers to stay on is to “dim” the dashboard lights.
When turning the dimmer about half way down, you can hear a clicking sound from the passenger side relay for the blowers and the blowers “pulse”. If you carry on “dimming” the dashboard lights then the blowers start to work.
Any of the lights that are on ok, e.g. radio, door controls, steering controls and the radio display light up ok but if you “dim” the dashboard lights, these dim correctly. And if you turn the dimmer up then they go up too. The normal dashboard lights are ok too, engine electric light (it’s a diesel), engine management light etc, both the little info displays but just not the extra lighting.
I have had this into an Auto Electrician who is puzzled and has it hooked up to his computer and ran his diagnostics on it with no problems at all.
I am reluctant to put it into Vauxhall stealers to be told it is something cheap like a bulb or a fuse (They have stung me over that before)
Has anyone got any ideas?
