Default Lesson Learnt - Always Read the label!

Now I know why it says this on packs of medication...

After jetting off on holiday to the snow and getting the flu... I come home after getting over it and get a blinking throat infection...! SO I rang the Doctors to see about getting something for it. I didnt even need to see him, he just spoke to me on the phone and said he'd leave a prescription at the reception. Bonus I thought...

So I picked it up, and went to Boots and collected it... Some Antibiotic's...

So I started taking them, as the Pharmacist said to. Then I started feeling worse! My body ached, Kidneys and back most of all and my "downstairs" department too!

So I decided to read the instructions on the medication I was taking... This is were I had messed up...

I was taking, every 4 hours...

    1x Penicillin 500mg - With 200mg Paracetamol
2x Paracetamol - With Aspirin and Caffeine - 500mg each
1x Cap of Benylin - With 150mg of Paracetamol + Other stuff etc.
    1x Sudafed (Behind the counter)

Well, I only just clicked this morning why the Doctor and Pharmacist kept asking me if I was taking anything else... (Well at the time I wasnt!)

After reading the information and advice on the leaflets inside, it turns out you shouldn't take anything else with any of the above and I was over dosing on Pain Killers!!!

A safe amount is 8 x 500mg (4000mg) tablets in 24hrs. I was taking... 1350mg every 4hrs, so over 24hrs... 5400mg of just Paracetamol! So I'd hate to think what all the other bits and bobs added together came to in my stomach, mixing all these together... Opps...!

So that was why I was feeling worse and my back and kidneys were hurting!

ANYWAY... Lesson learnt by me! LOL

Oh, and I fitted my new flat window wipers and TC Switch today LOL...

Serious stuff here boys - the rule is, DON'T DO IT!!! A 'well' known gentleman' (ok, my better half, Drinky ) managed to do exactly this same thing ten years ago after suffering with glandular fever (and the Doc had told him he had 'a cold'!!!) After three weeks of taking both paracetamol and Lemsip/cold remedies, he eventually passed out and we had to rush him to the clinic, where he was told he'd overdosed and had damaged liver and kidneys beyond repair. He's now intolerant to paracetamol, and isn't supposed to drink either (because of the damage already done to his liver)

So when it says 'read the leaflet', READ THE FRICKIN LEAFLET!!!!!
