My Mum and Dad got me a double bass when I was young. I learnt it. Went to Uni, got a bass guitar, joined a band, got loads of groupies, had loads of fun, got wasted, got tired of it, left the band, got a job, settled down, got married.

Hardly ever touch the bass now, but have some great memories.

So if you do get it for him, his life may pan out in one of many ways!

for a 4 year old i think this one would be everything he would need and more and would also do him for a lot of years to come(if he sticks with it).

my little girl is 4 and we bought her a small sort of toy organ last year and you know what kids are like it lies in the corner now and is never played

I bought a Casio keyboard for the missus a few years ago. It has Grand Piano sample in it which sounds superb. That one has one too so I expect it will be fine for now at least.

My son plays the Sax. and for that we went to a dedicated music shop. The advice in there was superb. Might be worth a look first if there is one local.

Bought my daughter a Yamaha PSR 170 a couple of years ago and she used it for about a month. Sat in the corner since then lol. If you don't mind second hand....
