2004 3.2 V6 Vectra misses auto gear change

The problem we have is that our Vectra intermittently briefly misses the auto gear change from 2nd to 3rd and slips into neutral. It only lasts for less than a second and then it finds third gear. It also can be a bit rough on the change down from 3rd to 2nd.

It has happened every now and then since we bought the car and mechanics have never been able to replicate the fault, though that's probably because they wouldn't be accelerating too hard on the test drive when it changes from 2nd to 3rd so they don't break the speed limit.

Does anyone have any idea what might cause this?

There's a known fault with early auto boxes - basically the box cracks where it meets the oil cooler and you end up with oil in the ATF. Common symptoms seem to have been similar to yours, with dodgy gear changes and then loss of some gears as the problem develops.

If you speak to your local stealer they should be able to tell you if your box is within the problem batch.

Check the ATF to see if its got water mixed in with it. If its red your ok, if its pink then have a search on here
