Default Weird Heater Problems - Help Please

    Hi,

I need help with this please, I've spent hours looking through the forums but cant seem to find the right thing.

My heater has a funny problem. it only works when it's on recirc mode. as soon as I switch the recirc off nothing comes out the vents but the I can still hear the fan/motor working. Also it takes a long time to heat sometimes up to 30 mins.

From what I've read I'm guessing its some kind of motor that controls some flaps or something.

I'm sorry if this topic has been raised already. Can someone please point me in the right direction.

    thanks

Do you get a clicking noise when you switch off/open the air flap, as there is a bit of a fault with the "recirc" servo motor, have a look here. It might help to find the problem
Have a look here too, it shows where the servo motor is, if that is what is at fault.

thanks for your reply Ed. I'm listening for a clicking noise but cant hear any when fiddling with the recirc setting. the only time I'm hearing a click is when I put the fan from 3 to 4. and the heating system seems to start vibrating then too.

I'm really confused as there is no obvious fault

I wonder if there could be another fault with another servo........ Or could it be the resistor pack for the heater motor. There was a post about replacing it. I will look and see if I can find it.
This is what I was thinking about.

thanks guys. I've got a price of £23 odd for the resistor pack from Vauxhall. But I don't want to go ahead and change it because I'm not even sure that's the problem.

would it possible to buy the whole heater blower motor with servo's from a scrap yard and just change the whole lot

I think Proves still have the motor. He did say someone was after the resistor?

If you can hear the motor running (and struggling) then it is unlikely to be the resistor pack. Is the fan speed the same when you 'open' the recirc?

It sounds to me that there is a big restriction in the incoming fresh air path. Try removing the pollen filter and having a look for collapsed ducting, or obstruction. You will also be able to hear the motor better too when the pollen filter is removed. DON'T put your hands / tools / etc into the fresh air duct with the fan running though.....
