    Car just failed mot on emission readings. EML light is on and code reading p0170, how likely is it to be the lambda at fault and are they common to go vectra c.
    Sorry by the way 1800 engine

    p0170 is fuel trim bank one,


    Could be O2 sensor.

    Sorry if I sound a bit of an arse, but isn't O2 short for oxygen which would then mean that is the Lambda as this is A.K.A as oxygen sensor.

    Yes, it is an O2 sensor, lambda is the air / fuel ratio term.... Just to be geeky.

    If that don't sort it, you need 1 new air filter and 1 bottle of injector cleaner in half a tank of juice, give it a 20 mile run when hot with illegal speed spurts where safe to do so, and on the day have the car as hot as possible when you take it in for testing and ask for the gas test to be done 1st, hth.

    I've a feeling they've mugged you here, probably tested it with a half warm engine.

    Did you use a sensor socket? Or just use a spanner?

    Used a Sensor socket only cost £8 from local motor factors. No room for a spanner in there rad toooo close and manifold shield stops u turning it. Advise spray WD40 on cold manifold day before then remove when hot , came out litle effort.
