    Default daft question HIDs\Xenon

    not being a light man (literally lol) i would like to know the difference between HIDs and Xenon lights , are they both the same thing just different name? how do u tell which ones you have?, i think my scoob has xenons , they flicker when u switch them on full beam and give a bluey white glow type affair lol sorry best i could describe it

    yes i know i could have googled it but where the fun in that eh

    Not sure if Xenon and HID are the same, suffice to say I've got Xenons on my GSi - they start off a dull white and then in a few seconds, as they warm up, you get that bright white light. HTH

    Essentially the same thing - both are bulbs filled with xenon gas instead of the normal halogen.

    Factory fit xenons have all the trickery built into the wiring already, to provide the power needed. HIDs need separate ignitors and step up transformers to provide the 23kV needed to burn the gas

    I'm assuming you also know that "Xenon" bulbs that you get for £10-£20 are nothing like, or anywhere as good as a HID kit - the former just have a small amount of Xenon added into the inert gas within the glass envelope; their light output will be much less than HID lights.
