Default 150 cdti with no power

    Hi There -

Am the proud owner of an 05 sri which seems to have just developed an intermitent fault. From cold the engine wont rev and the car will barely pull away almost as if I am in top gear - then when above 2000 revs we are back to normal. Could this be fuel starvation or the dreaded swirl valve?

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

do you think this will be pricey, or maybe still covered under warranty

    Defo the EGR valve.

It is possible to clean it up yourself if you have some mechanical ability.

I don't, unfortunately, and it cost £120 or so to change.

    Good luck.

its always worth just removing it and giving it a good clean first before replacement! its easy enough just take your time.

If your car is over 3 years old then you'll be lucky to get it done under warranty, my work mate had the same problem & took his to his local VX dealer they cleaned his EGR as they were on back order & it's been ok since (mine was replaced about 50,000 miles back & still ok)

Yep, I'd say the EGR valve. Read the link above and are the symptoms like yours?.

The much cheaper part is in the link as well verses VX dealers for exactly the same part. VX +£350 :icon_eek

defo clean the valve... it takes about 30 minutes if you are handy with the spanners - and that includes 20 minutes cleaning the valve
