How do you remove Vectra rear seat back??
04 Vectra Elite, leather trim.
Spilt quite an amount of creosote on the rear seat back. I have some suggestions about how to remove the creosote, but given how it's stinking out the car I'd like to remove the seat back to do it. I haven't really dabbled in taking this car apart, and am about to go and see if it is obvious, but does anyone know the steps to take out the seat back?
Also there is carpet stuck to the back of the seat back - anyone know if this is replaceable if I carefully remove it, or would it require a new seat back, in which case is that the WHOLE seat back (including the front) or just the back panel?

UPDATE: I now have the carpet off, and creosote has soaked into the bottom of the seat back foam.

Thanks - but I can't see what you are describing. Maybe I wasn't clear in my description.
It's the whole of the backrest on the passenger side of the rear seat that I need to remove (the wide one, with the armrest in it). I can see where it swivels at it's bottom, how do I get it off that? (And do I need to remove both sides?)

Update: Having looked again, inside the boot there is a metal bracket which goes from between the split seat back to the floorpan with three bolts into the floorpan.. I have a suspicion that if I were to undo these, the seat back may simply lift out of the "hinge" part. But, given my luck, the bolts would drop through the holes and I wouldn't be able to get them back. Is that how to get it off?

You sure glenboy? I had to undo the 3 bolts on the bracket to get the wide one out. the end by the door was a clip up and out but the other end was fixed via the bracket.
I think your right, it may have been its quite a heavy lump to manouevre (sp?) on yer own so i unbolted it to make it easier

OK, thanks. Didn't know about how-to's, they are useful!!
The how-to says to undo the three bolts.
I've had quite a good poke around with kitchen roll now so have managed to get the worst out. It won't dry for a few days at least, but I think I will let it dry and see whether I need to go as far as removing seats. Stuff like that always makes me nervous, especially when it looks so simple in the pics!!
Thanks again...

Pull the outer edge of the backrest ( closest to door ) upwards , then slide outwards , they locate on a slide pin , no bolts to mess with . Use some force and they just lift out , 5 seconds easy peesy .

Right, I'm being hopeless. I have the side pieces loose but they won't come off (still attached at the top, but not sure they need to come off any further) and I have the rear seat itself loose but won't come off (still attached in front middle). I think I'm not being man enough with them.
But I was just reading the How To again. That says to undo the three bolts, and the seat belt retaining bolt (which I can get at even with the seat in place). Hard to tell if that's holding the back on, but I think it is. And, looking at it, the bracket on the three bolts looks like it is holding the back in place too (i.e. the rod appears to go through the middle of a hole - could be wrong).
