    Default Missing oil filter!!!

OK guys and gals you are going to enjoy this one.

Bought a 2006 1.9 CDTi Signum a few months back and as I do most of my servicing decided it was time for some tinkering. Went to the local parts shop and got all I need (Except Haynes, which they did not have.).

Lifted the bonnet and CANNOT find the oil filter!! Looked under the car and CANNOT find the oil drain plug!!

I assume that Vauxhall have them hidden away in a secret place???

Also want to know where the best point is to drain the coolant from. Is there anywhere to download basic service details from?

Dumb I know, but a little guidance would be appreciated. Ta. Bob.

PS. Just joined the site in the last hour.

I am not too familier with the diesel, But you should find the sump plug at the bottom of the engine on the sump. I belive there is a large cover under the engine that you will need to remove to get to the sump plug. As too draining the coolant, remove the lowest hose from the radiator, it would be a good idea to flush it out with a hose pipe too. I am not sure where you will find the oil filter though. Good luck with the servicing though. Are you changing the fuel filter too.

Hi pal, oil filter is located at the rear of the engine in the centre, drop the panel under the car and look above the exhaust pipe, it has a 32mm nut on the end of the cap. Put a hose on the pipe that sticks out the side of it and undo the cap about 1cm, the oil in the cap will drain out, undo replace filter and cap, its plastic so dont over tighten. the oil drain plug is at the rear of the sump, 13mm nut and it may be very tight, just changed my oil and had to buy new sump plug bolt as i used the gas axe to remove old one!
Not looked at the water side as yet, but if no drain plug, just drop a bottom hose. Hope this helps.

    PS welcome to the site!

Cheers Ed. I have a pretty good mechanical knowledge and have always carried out most of my servicing.

Could not believe it when I looked under the car and saw NOTHING. The whole engine bay appears to be covered underneath. I was hoping that VX had used their combined brains and provided access points for the filter and drain plug but that does not seem to be the case.

Removing the lower hose will work but there should also be a recognised drain point on the block or elsewhere to help flush out all the old coolant.

    Cheers.

There is easy access but ideal with a pit, i did mine on ramps and the flap underneath limits access. buy some good oil though, 5w30 fully synthetic, 4.3 litres with filter change. shout me back if you need more info, but this site has pretty much everything covered.

The coolant has a drain point between the engine and the radiator, it's a pipe that hangs down with a plastic screw cap at the bottom. Thats whats on the 150bhp engine, not sure if the 120 is the same.
